Morning Meeting by Randi Levin, Transitional Life Strategist

Morning Meeting by Randi Levin, Transitional Life Strategist, Bergen County Moms

Did you just glance at your calendar and wonder how you are going to make everything happen this week? Busy has become the new normal. We seem to compete with each other to see who is busier or working more, in order to reveal which one of our friends or family members has the most on their calendars. It is almost as if there is a prize offered for the busiest person. So why am I suggesting that you schedule yet ANOTHER meeting?

The meeting that I am challenging you to schedule is the most important meeting in your day. In order to be effective, it needs to happen every day. The content can vary but the theme remains the same. Your morning meeting is with the CEO of your life. Your morning meeting is with YOU. When you start the day with scheduled time for yourself, you begin your morning with intention. That intention sets the tone for your week.

Why morning? Morning is the start of the day. When we wake up rushed and overwhelmed, our day often follows suit. The simple ritual of kicking off each day with time to reflect and time for yourself reinforces your humanity, enriches your spirit, and provides momentum. Morning meetings establish ritual. When we do something nice for ourselves at the start of the day, we immediately feel accomplished. It is that accomplishment that will carry over to all that you do. Looking for clarity and focus? It begins with self, and with the bandwidth to be, to create, and to explore. When we power down the world around us, we restart our own engines, and with that we connect to aspects of ourselves that we have lost, abandoned or never explored.

The content of your meeting can vary as can the allotment of time; the key is that you have the meeting. Everyday. The key is that you show up for yourself. Everyday. We spend our days showing up for work, for kids, for spouses, for appointments. Whole days and even weeks go by and we forget to be there for ourselves. In the quiet of your morning meeting, you create a footprint all about self-care and self-motivation that extends far beyond the time you invest.

Your morning meeting can be a personal party of one, or a group event like a class. You can attend in your pajamas or all dressed up. The agenda is simple. Your morning meeting is space and time that belongs to only you. Too busy to schedule and attend this meeting? Here are some great ways to turn that around. Mornings too taxing plan a lunchtime mini retreat or evening one-on-one to restore and refresh. Everyday. Scheduled in.
